1.) Book a Tour Through a Third Party
Almost all wineries are not open to the public. If they are you have to make an appointment, which are hard to come by. We booked a tour through Ampora and had one of our best tasting experiences ever.
2.) Higher Altitude will Mean More Concentrated Wines
Altitude is what makes Mendoza such a fantastic and unique district. The higher the altitude the more tannic and concentrated the wine. The more east (away from Andes Mountains) you go, the more bland the wine becomes.
3.) Do Not Try to Ship to the US
You will face of fees of at least $100 with only one bottle. A friend told me a case cost him $250. I was able to get a case through customs cost free.
4.) Their Seasons Are Opposite Ours
Note to self: their seasons are the opposite of ours. I had a blast in late August, but the harvest is in March.
